Communication Skills Workshop in Shanghai

Communication Skills Workshop in Shanghai

In October 2025, I traveled to Shanghai to deliver a confident communication workshop to a team of Chinese associates at the Global Law firm, CMS.

Communication skills are vital for lawyers. In the legal space, technical expertise alone isn’t enough—mastering confident communication is what separates top performers from the rest. Lawyers who excel in clear, persuasive, and empathetic communication build stronger client relationships, win more trust, and drive measurable business growth.

  • Closing More Deals: A 2023 study by the Legal Sales and Service Organization (LSSO) found that law firms with structured client communication training saw a 25-30% increase in deal closure rates, as lawyers who actively listened and articulated value propositions outperformed peers in competitive bids.
  • Repeat Business: According to Thomson Reuters’ 2024 State of the Legal Market Report, 68% of corporate clients cited “effective communication” as the primary reason for rehiring a law firm, leading to 40% higher retention rates for firms prioritizing client-facing skills.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Harvard Business Review analysis (2022) of legal services showed that clients rating lawyer communication as “excellent” reported 35% higher satisfaction scores, correlating with 2x more referrals and reduced churn.

In my recent workshop on Confident Communication for Lawyers, we explored practical strategies to harness these skills.

We looked at strategies and frameworks to prepare ahead by identifying who the audience is, how to set a clear intention, and how to communicate the message clearly and effectively, focusing on benefits.

The session was fully customized for legal professionals and we worked with real scenarios that associates deal with in their daily work:

– How to make a great first impression with a sharp elevator pitch

– How to use verbal, non-verbal and vocal language to enhance communication skills

– Tactics to speak confidently with assertive, clear and simple language.

– How to handle uncomfortable situations with confidence, such as negotiation, overcoming objections or delivering bad news to clients

Participants reported a higher confidence in their ability to communicate efficiently and confidently at the end of the session.
