Inclusive Language: A Catalyst for Inclusion
In August 2024, I delivered a session on Inclusive Language for the Ageas team in Asia.
The workshop was hosted at the Hong Kong Regional Office, where over 100 team members participated across several countries, from Hong Kong, the Philippines & India.
We talked about the importance of speaking in a language that is inclusive, respectful and free of bias, so that everybody feels welcome, particularly individuals from under-represented groups.
We emphasized why this topic matters not only for organizations and society but also for each individual, connecting inclusion with personal stories and values.
The session showcased real case scenarios and equipped the participants with actionable tools to use language as a catalyst for inclusion and equity in the workplace and beyond.
Content of the session:
- Unconscious bias and language: how language reveals bias.
- Why inclusive language matters: for individuals, for organizations, for society.
- Reframing our language: principles for inclusive language (neutrality, accuracy, people-first)
- Insights from a real case study.
