In February 2026, I had the privilege of delivering an in-person Entrepreneurs’ Masterclass for the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hong Kong’s Entrepreneurs’ Committee.
The session was exclusively for chamber members and focused on one of the most critical skills for entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, and leaders today: building a loyal, engaged audience that drives influence and results.
As a public speaker, author, and coach with over 20 years of international leadership experience, I’ve personally applied these strategies to grow my own platform and business starting from zero during the pandemic. Growing my own audience allowed me to sign a book deal with the world’s top publisher, Penguin Random House, land speaking engagements with global organizations such as UBS or S&P Global and have my own Substack community with over 13,000 members.
This masterclass was my opportunity to share the exact framework I use and teach, helping attendees position themselves as influential voices in their industries by growing their own audience.

Too many entrepreneurs lead with what they do (“I offer coaching” or “I sell productivity tools”). The audience doesn’t care about your product or service: they care about the transformation you deliver.
We broke down how to shift from features to benefits using my simple “Benefit-First Framework”:
– Identify your ideal client’s deepest pain or aspiration.
– Translate your offering into emotional and practical outcomes (e.g., “Stop scrolling at 2 a.m. wondering if you’re doing enough” becomes “Wake up with clarity, confidence, and a content plan that actually converts”).
– Test it in one sentence that your audience can immediately repeat.
2. Channel Strategy: Be Where Your Audience Already Is (Not Everywhere)
The biggest mistake is trying to be active on every platform. We dissected a practical assessment process:
– Map your ideal audience’s demographics, behaviours, and preferred platforms using free tools and simple surveys.
– Score each channel against three criteria: reach potential, engagement quality, and alignment with your strengths (video? writing? live interaction?).
– Choose 1–2 primary channels and one secondary for experimentation.
Strategic positioning is key: while LinkedIn often wins for B2B influence and thought leadership, Instagram excels for personal brand storytelling.
3. Engagement Strategies That Create Real Connection, Trust, and Community
Numbers mean nothing without relationships. We dived deep into content types that foster belonging:
- Story-driven posts
- Interactive formats: polls, Q&As, challenges
- Behind-the-scenes glimpses
- In-action content
- Collaborations
We also covered common pitfalls to avoid:
- Over-selling or sounding corporate.
- Inconsistent posting that kills trust.
- Ignoring comments and DMs (the fastest way to kill momentum).
- Chasing vanity metrics instead of meaningful conversations.
